Pundit: Tottenham may have dropped Skipp transfer hint after Sky reveal
Kevin Phillips has claimed Norwich City are likely targeting Billy Gilmour because Tottenham have told them Oliver Skipp is not available.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner claimed Spurs will not let Skipp, 20, leave north London until a new manager has been appointed.
According to Sky Sports (28th June), Norwich City are closing in on the signing of Billy Gilmour on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.
Skipp spent the 2020-21 campaign on loan at Carrow Road and was an integral part of Daniel Farke’s Championship-winning side.
However, it is unclear whether he will be part of the first team plans at Tottenham next season with Jose Mourinho’s successor still to be appointed.
When asked by Football Insider if Gilmour’s potentially imminent move to Norwich hinted at Skipp being part of the Spurs first team next season, Phillips said:

“If they’ve gone for Gilmour they’ve probably been told by Tottenham that Skipp isn’t available right now.
“Until they sort the manager situation out no player will be allowed to leave. The likes of Nuno Espirito Santo will want to have a look at what he is working with.
“Norwich have probably thought that they cannot wait for a manager to come in. They need to make provisions now and Billy Gilmour may be the substitution for Skipp.
“Skipp had a magnificent season at Norwich last year so it would be a shame if he stays at Spurs and doesn’t get any game time.”
