Pundit: Nuno is the 'best manager for Tottenham now' as new twist reported

Tottenham will not hang around for Mauricio Pochettino and will instead appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager.

That is the view of former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the search for Jose Mourinho's successor in north London.

According to The Sun (28 June), a return for Pochettino could still happen this summer if Paris Saint-Germain can persuade Didier Deschamps or Zinedine Zidane to join them.

Whelan urged Spurs not to wait around for Pochettino as Nuno is "the best manager for them right now".

"Nuno is ready and waiting so they should not hang around on the off chance Pochettino might become available," he told Football Insider.

"I find it very difficult to see why Pochettino would leave PSG to come back to Tottenham. There is no sense in that whatsoever.

"PSG know that they have got one of the best managers out there. He is a great man manager, he is intelligent, tactically astute, is likeable and young.

"I'm pretty sure he will stay and Nuno will sign a deal to become Tottenham manager.

"I think Nuno is the best manager for them right now. Success will not come overnight for Spurs. They need a three year plan put in place. Nuno is the answer."
