Pundit verdict on Everton racing West Ham to Memphis Depay after source's transfer reveal

Alan Hutton has claimed Memphis Depay “won’t fancy” a move to an Everton side fighting against relegation this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Depay will feel he is “better” than Frank Lampard’s side.

Lampard is keen to bolster his attacking options after Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffered a knee injury in pre-season.

According to the BBC (4 August), the 25-year-old will be out for up to six weeks.

Spanish outlet SPORT reported (6 August) that the Toffees have approached Barcelona over a potential move for Depay.

The forward has entered the final 12 months of his contract with the La Liga side.

On Friday (12 August), sources told this site that West Ham have submitted a “big money bid” for Depay.

When asked if Depay would be likely to make the switch to the Merseyside club, Hutton told Football Insider: “I can’t imagine it.

He’s someone who sometimes flatters to deceive. He’s been at some big clubs, yeah you see flashes but that’s probably about it. Barcelona are looking to ship him out.

Would he fancy a scrap at the bottom of the Premier League? No I think he thinks he’s better than that.

If he’s coming back to the Prem he’ll want to be in one of the top teams, he’s not the kind of guy who would fancy an Everton who are going to be bottom half of the Premier League.”
