Rangers accelerate Bobby Clark interest as Red Bull Salzburg ready to sanction transfer

Rangers are ready to step up their interest in Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Bobby Clark this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 21-year-old star has spent the season on loan in the English Championship with Derby County, and his parent club are now ready to cash in on him ahead of next term.

The Gers are among a group of clubs that are keen to make a move for the former England U19 international in the coming months, with sources indicating that he could be allowed to leave Salzburg for a cut-price fee.

Clark is seen as a player who has the potential to become a huge talent in the future, and a deal to bring him in could form part of a significant turnover in the playing squad at Ibrox.

Rangers want to strengthen their hand across the board to push for the Scottish Premiership title again next term, and they like what they have seen from the starlet.

Bobby Clark versatility provided big impact for Derby

Clark joined Salzburg from Liverpool in the summer of 2024, but returned to the UK for his loan spell at Derby this term, where he quickly became a key figure in their push for the play-offs.

The youngster notched four goals and three assists for John Eustace’s side in all competitions, while he managed 33 league starts across the campaign.

Clark was used in a wide range of positions for the East Midlands outfit, including at the base of the midfield and also out on the right wing in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

His exploits for the Rams have seen him catch the eye of several clubs in the UK and beyond, with Rangers among those to have taken a strong fancy to Clark.

He remains under contract at Red Bull Salzburg until the summer of 2029, but they are prepared to break that agreement to try to move him on this summer.

Clark was briefly linked with a move to Celtic back in the January window, but now it is Rangers who are in the ascendancy and hunting for his signature.

Rangers to battle Derby for Clark’s services

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Derby are keen to sign Clark permanently this summer, and they are working hard to have him in their ranks again next term.

The Rams are understood to be aware that their chances of securing a fresh move for their loanee are likely to hinge on the valuation that Salzburg set, as they could easily be priced out of a deal as a result.

Derby are hoping that a permanent swoop for Clark will not be out of reach for them in the coming months, but they are also accepting of the fact that the player may have his heart set on a bigger move.

Rangers are firmly in the mix to sign him this summer, and will be hoping to take advantage of the fact that they have European football to offer to prospective signings.
