Rangers backed to replace Ryan Jack with Ibrox-mad star and second new signing - expert

Alan Hutton has backed Rangers to sign Norwich City’s Kenny McLean and a younger midfielder to “fix” their problems in the middle of the park.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Ibrox and Scotland star stated the 30-year-old would help “bridge the gap” as the Gers look to freshen up their midfield options.

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express (20 November), Rangers are interested in signing McLean, who was on the club’s books as a youngster, on a pre-contract deal in January.

The likes of Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield are all set to be out of contract at Ibrox next summer.

Hutton stated McLean would be a “good” signing and tipped the Gers to add a “younger” midfielder to their ranks as well.

I think it would be good to bring him in at this moment in time,” Hutton told Football Insider.

“He gives you something a little bit different, he’s a left-footer. Midfield is somewhere that they have to improve.

“You look at the likes of Davis, this is probably going to be his last year. Jack, he’s into the last year of his contract and has had his injury problems. It’s something they’re going to need to fix.

“Kenny McLean, coming in at this moment in time, can help bridge that gap, if you want. He’s Rangers through and through, he knows what it’s all about. It didn’t quite work out for him as a kid.

“Long term, I think you have to be recruiting somebody younger for the future as well. I think it’ll be a mix and blend of both”.
