Rangers backed to sign 'my friend' Fabian Delph after confirmed news - expert

Alan Hutton has suggested his good friend Fabian Delph could be a perfect fit for Rangers.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said his issues with staying fit would be a problem.

The 32-year-old was released by Everton this summer following the expiration of his contract.

The midfielder joined the Toffees in 2019 from Man City for a fee of £8.5million.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side made seven signings this summer.

Loanee Malik Tillman from Bayern Munich was the only player brought in to strengthen the midfield.

When asked if Delph could be a good fit for the Light Blues, Hutton told Football Insider: “Obviously I know him very well, he was my captain at Aston Villa so I know what he brings to the party.

He’s obviously a great player and within the dressing room he’s an absolute leader, definitely a winner. That’s probably something that Rangers could have at this moment in time.

The one question mark that’s always been over him is fitness issues. You look at when [Aaron] Ramsey came in, there was a lot riding on him coming in and hitting the ground running and doing well and it didn’t work out. That would be my one fear.

Of course I know him, he’s a great player, he could add a lot to that midfield but could he play on a consistent level week in week out? There would always be that question mark there.

Delph made 204 Premier League appearances during his career.

During those outings he scored seven goals and provided ten assists.

The former England international has also made 16 Champions League appearances in his career.

In other news, a Rangers expert has rubbished Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s £200m claim.
