Rangers braced for 'big boost' after updates on Kemar Roofe and Ianis Hagi - pundit

Ianis Hagi and Kemar Roofe could give Rangers a “big boost” ahead of their Europa League final with Eintracht Frankfurt next week (18 May), according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Giovanni van Bronckhorst will want as “big of a squad as possible” as he ponders his tactics for the showpiece game in Seville.

Roofe was not fit enough for the semi-final second leg with RB Leipzig while Hagi has been out with a knee injury since January.

As quoted by club media on Thursday (12 May), Van Bronckhorst revealed he is hopeful Roofe will be fit enough for the final.

Meanwhile, Ianis Hagi was included in the club’s photoshoot for the showpiece game and hinted on Twitter last week (6 May) he could be available.

“100 per cent, that would be a big boost,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I’m sure Van Bronckhorst will want as big of a squad as possible.

“There are a lot of good players in that squad. I can’t pick between Rangers and Celtic in terms of quality of players.

“Van Bronckhorst will be happy to have the players back and then he will make a decision on who deserves to start and what formation is best depending on how Frankfurt play.

“It’s exciting for everyone involved with Rangers.”

It looks like Aaron Ramsey will be available for the game after starting the 4-0 win over St. Mirren on Tuesday (10 May).

Alfredo Morelos will miss the game as he is still out with a thigh injury.

In other news, Rangers are in advanced talks with a senior star over a new contract.
