Sources: Rangers in advanced talks with McGregor over new deal

Rangers are in advanced talks with Allan McGregor over a new deal, Football Insider understands.

The 40-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next month and all parties have been tight-lipped over his future.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club are now close to agreeing an extension with the veteran goalkeeper.

Negotiations are progressing well and it is expected that a deal will now be done imminently.

It will be a huge boost to manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst to have McGregor available for at least another year.

He has been instrumental in Rangers’ remarkable run to the final of the Europa League and Van Bronckhorst sees the shot-stopper as still playing a key role for the side next season.

It comes just after Scott Arfield penned a one-year contract extension and rising star Alex Lowry committed to a new three-year.

Football Insider first broke the news that Lowry was set to stay after snubbing Newcastle United and Man City interest to remain in Glasgow.

McGregor has played arguably the best football of his career since re-signing for the Glasgow giants in the summer of 2018.

He has now played 442 times for the club and will be remembered as one of their outstanding players of the modern era.

McGregor has ensured his placed in the Ibrox annals this term with his outstanding displays in the Europa League and is set to crown another brilliant season by starting the final later this month.
