Rangers backed to beat Celtic to title after journalist's Antonio Colak update - pundit
Frank McAvennie has insisted Rangers can challenge Celtic for the title with their current squad.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic striker said the Gers do not need to make signings to take back the Scottish Premiership next season.
According to The National‘s Chris Jack (23 June), Rangers are interested in Croatian forward Antonio Colak, 28, this summer.
The Ibrox club are also said to have received interest in Alfredo Morelos and Joe Aribo, the sales of which could land the club around £20million.
Led by Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Rangers finished second in the Scottish Premiership last season – six points behind rivals Celtic.
When asked by Football Insider if a new forward would help Rangers wrestle back the league title, McAvennie said: “They can not buy anyone and they will still be the challengers this season.

“I think Rangers will want to kick on because it was a good title race last year. I think they’ll improve from last season because van Bronckhorst will have his own ideas in preseason and will want to change things.
“He’s not frightened to go for a back three or a back four and change it during a game. He’s also not afraid to take players off if they’re not playing well. I like managers like that.
“It’s going to be interesting but I’ve got a feeling that the firepower Celtic have will be too much for Rangers.”
