Kieran Maguire: Rangers 'delighted' by boardroom triumph as controversial deal struck
Rangers will be “delighted” by their victory over the SPFL in the Cinch title sponsorship case.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the boardroom dispute at the top of Scottish football.
The SPFL announced the commercial tie-in with used car retailer Cinch ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
But Ranger refused to show the company’s branding because of a pre-existing relationship with Park’s Motor’s Group, the used car firm run by Ibrox chairman Douglas Park.
As announced by the SPFL on Wednesday (15 June), a new deal with Cinch that no longer requires Rangers to participate has been negotiated.
Rangers meanwhile are lobbying for an independent review into the sponsorship row.

But Maguire insists that they will be happy to have successfully manoeuvred their way out of the original deal.
“This is part of a much broader issue in terms of Rangers’ relations with SPFL,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The club will be delighted with the outcome. Looking at the financial consequences for the other clubs, they don’t appear to be too much out of pocket.
“Some in the Rangers board will be delighted because there clearly was a conflict there. However, this much broader issue between Rangers and the SPFL has not finished, so watch this space.”
Rangers are on course to announce 2021-22 commercial revenues of £27million, according to sponsorship and retail tsar James Bisgrove.
