Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers could save "millions" in the transfer window by handing out-of-contract players new deals.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Ibrox star and Rangers TV pundit insisted the likes of Allan McGregor and Steven Davis are "huge" influences on and off the pitch.

Rangers sources told Football Insider earlier this month (9 May) that the club are in advanced talks to tie McGregor, 40, down.

The Daily Record (25 May) claim Gers chief Ross Wilson is to hold talks with Leon Balogun and Davis over new deals in the coming weeks.

Hutton insisted replacing the senior stars would cost the club more than tying them down.

Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "The likes of Davis, McGregor, (Connor) Goldson, (Aaron) Ramsey, Balogun, all these guys are out of contract.

"I mean, where do you turn? What do you do next? The amount of money that you're going to have to spend to replace them, you're probably talking millions. At least a few million.

"Rangers and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have a plan moving forward, of course they will. You have to, you can't stand still.

"The number of young boys that are coming through at Rangers at this moment in time, they need experience round about them. They need help to be nurtured and to become better players.

"These are the kind of guys that you need. I don't think they'll all go, if I'm honest. One or two, probably. There's so much experience within there.

"We know Ramsey and Diallo are going to go back but Griegs, Davis, Goldson, they're three huge players moving forward. So I'd like to see them tie a couple of them down anyway."
