Rangers fans are expected to play a key role in the decision to sack Philippe Clement amid growing pressure on his position.

This is according to ex-Man United chief scout and Sir Alex Ferguson's former number two Mick Brown, who exclusively told Football Insider that fans putting pressure on the board could force them into making a decision.

A frustrating start to the season at Ibrox has culminated in a 2-1 defeat against Aberdeen on 30 October which has put nine points between Clement's side and the league leaders.

With the team now sitting in third place, nine points behind both Celtic and Aberdeen, any hopes of a title challenge now seem farfetched.

It has been said that the growing anger at Ibrox, which has already been shown in anti-board displays by the Union Bears, could put pressure on the club to make a decision.

Brown has insisted the home crowd will accept nothing but the best, and while they are aware of the situation the club is in, they will not tolerate failure.

Concerns had been raised amongst supporters that the club announced losses of £17.2million in 2024 - but Brown previously told Football Insider that any termination fee would have no impact.

Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, has warned that the atmosphere at Ibrox could turn "hostile" against the manager and the board.

"Rangers fans will not put up with failure for too long," he told Football Insider.

"Most of them accept that they're not at the level they used to be any more.

"But the minimum requirement is that they can mount a title challenge against Celtic, and they're nowhere near that at the moment.

"The finger, then, is inevitably pointed at the manager because he has got to do better.

"It can be a very hostile atmosphere up there, especially if they're not getting results.

"Now, if you get 60,000 supporters at Ibrox who all turn on the manager, the board aren't going to like that. In my experience, boards and directors don't like pressure.

"If that anger keeps growing and results don't improve, they could be forced to make a call."
