Rangers fans torn to shreds by ex-Aberdeen chief as ‘rubbish’ emerges online
Rangers should not give in to fan pressure and should stick by manager Danny Rohl, according to Keith Wyness.
The former Aberdeen chief executive, speaking to Football Insider, believes that the ownership need to continue supporting Rohl.
Scrutiny has increased on Rohl’s position following three successive Scottish Premiership defeats, and in the wake of a 3-1 loss at Glasgow rivals Celtic.
The Gers will end the campaign trophyless, and will not have the chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League with a third-placed league finish.
Rohl has been Rangers manager since October 2025, and has been seen as a vast improvement on his predecessor Russell Martin, as the Gers were sitting sixth in the league, and were 13 points behind leaders Hearts, when the German was appointed.

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that sacking Rohl would be a “knee-jerk” reaction from Rangers.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks that the Gers will improve and challenge for the title next season under the 37-year-old’s management.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I saw all the usual rubbish on social media from Rangers fans saying he’s got to get sacked after they lose to Celtic.
“It’s always the same knee-jerk response after Old Firm games. They’d be absolutely foolish to get rid of Danny Rohl right now. He is a manager that has got great potential.
“I think he’s going to do very well with Rangers. He hasn’t really had a proper season to work with. Giving them an off season and giving him some support in terms of bringing some players in, you should see a very, very strong Rangers next year.
“Danny Rohl should definitely be there and if they got rid of him for some reason, it would be a huge mistake and Rangers will then get everything they deserve. He’s one for the future for Rangers, and he’s the right fit right now.”
Danny Rohl could leave Rangers this summer
Rohl has been linked with a move to Wolfsburg this summer, with the Bundesliga club currently without a permanent manager.
The move could appeal to Rohl to return to his native country, and manage in the Bundesliga if Wolfsburg can survive relegation to the second tier.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that he could see Rohl walking away from the Rangers job due to the increasing pressure he is facing at Ibrox.
Rohl states that he remains committed to Rangers, and that stability is positive news ahead of what could be another busy summer of transfer activity at the club.
