Rangers fans will be delighted by Wilson's transfer update amid £5m January reveal - Hutton

Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers fans will be delighted with what Ross Wilson said about possible player sales in the January window.

The former defender and lifelong Gers fan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider,

As quoted by Sky Sports (22nd November), sporting director Wilson insisted there is “no mandate” the manager must sell players to invest in upcoming transfer windows.

However, he stated if anyone is sold, then the money will be reinvested into the squad.

Football Insider finance expert Kieran Maguire has calculated Rangers only have £5-6million to spend in January under financial fair play regulations.

Hutton admitted players could be sold for the right fee but that Rangers fans can have peace of mind the funds would go towards recruitment.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You heard the press conference. The remit wasn’t you have to sell players at any kind of moment in time.

“But if the right fee comes in for a player, that will then be reinvested into the squad. I think that’s probably the best thing for the fans to hear.

“The worry is you take X amount of millions for a Ryan Kent or whoever but the money doesn’t come back into the playing squad. That’s when it’s a problem. If you can reinvest, then that’s fine.

“So we’ll have to wait and see what happens. We speak about Morelos and the interest that was all over him. It’s nowhere to be seen now.

“His performances don’t warrant that high fee. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. So long as they reinvest any money, that can be a good thing.”

George Edmundson and Jordan Jones were the only senior players Rangers sold during the summer window.

Meanwhile, Juninho Bacuna was the only player signed for a transfer fee.
