Rangers could offload a host of players signed by Pedro Caixinha in a January firesale, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that the Gers want to offload Carlos Pena, Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Eduardo Herrera and Dalcio as well as defender Lee Hodson, who may be offered in a swap deal to Kilmarnock to try and snap up attacker Jordan Jones.
It is understood that the Gers are locked in talks with Cruz Azul over the sale of Pena as Caixinha looks to sign up the Mexican midfielder for the second time in the space of several months.
Portuguese trio Dalcio, Alves and Cardoso are also expected to follow Pena out the door, as well as Herrera, meaning that the only summer signings of Caixinha left at Ibrox after January could be just Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans, Alfredo Morelos and Daniel Candeias with Aaron Nemane also set to leave.
Declan John is now said to be seen as a signing by Mark Allen, not Caixinha, after he made his loan deal at Ibrox permanent.
The potential swap deal for Killie’s Jones is perhaps one of the more exciting aspects of this January exodus.
The report says that Hodson is likely to be offered out this month and may be used as a makeweight to bring the dazzling attacker to Ibrox.
Football Insider verdict
This is great news for Rangers fans who were left completely baffled by Caixinha’s transfer policy in the summer. It’s crazy to think that Dave King let him spend as much money as he did on players who have barely proven themselves in their career or those who are past their best. Alves’ signing was perhaps the most disappointing. The Portugal international should have done a lot better than he has done and the finger should not be pointed at Caixinha for that one and rather the player himself. However Pena, Herrera, Dalcio and Cardoso never looked like they were going to be any good, and that is exactly how it panned out.
In other Rangers news, Celtic fans have trolled the Gers as they close in on the signing of this Premier League forward.
