Rangers first teamer rejects multiple contract offers - report

By Richard Parks
David Bates has rejected multiple contract offers from Rangers as his future at the club hangs in the balance, according to a report.
Gers fans blog Four Lads Had a Dream, which has been a very reliable source for news about the club in recent months, claimed in a Twitter exchange with a supporter on Sunday morning that the defender has turned down “initial offers” from the Glasgow giants.
Asked if it was true that Bates had rejected a new contract, Four Lads Had a Dream reported on their Twitter account that it was but explained that negotiations were ongoing and there is plenty of time to secure an agreement.
The bloggers admitted that the future of the 21-year-old is up in the air but there is still hope among the parties concerned that a deal can be done.

Bates, whose current contract is due to expire in the summer, has started the last five league matches for Rangers and been a key player in the team’s post-Christmas turnaround.
The former Raith Rovers player started alongside on-loan Russell Martin in Sunday’s 5-3 Scottish Premiership win over Hamilton in the continued absence of injured duo Bruno Alves and Ross McCrorie.
Football Insider verdict:
The future of Bates will be a growing concern for the Ibrox faithful, especially given that he has now rejected more than one offer from the club. The player is in a stronger negotiating position than he was two months ago after taking advantage of the injuries to Alves and McCrorie, and the January exit of Danny Wilson, to climb up the pecking order. The Ibrox hierarchy have sealed new deals for Josh Windass and James Tavernier in the last week, and demonstrated a vision and aptitude that has previously been absent during the Dave King era. Supporters have been impressed by Bates’ recent showings and, given his promise, improvement and boyhood allegiance to the club, will be hoping for a boardroom hat-trick.
In other Rangers news, a stunning £50,000-a-week deal is on offer to a Light Blues first teamer in game-changing development.
