Noel Whelan has heaped praise on Rangers prospect Chris McKee and insisted the prolific young striker is “worth his weight in gold”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Aberdeen forward compared the 18-year-old to Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt who has blown away coaches at the Premier League club this season.
McKee has impressed since making the permanent step up to Rangers B team this season and subsequently earned a call up to Norther Ireland’s Under-21 squad earlier this month.

Last week he committed his long-term future to the Gers by penning a new two-year deal which will keep him at Ibrox until the summer of 2022.
The Athletic‘s Jordan Campbell revealed on Sunday that the striker has “gone to another level” physique-wise this campaign and could be set for a loan move in 2021.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the young forward’s development in Glasgow, Whelan said: “It is very exciting because strikers come with a commodity.
“Sometimes you have to go out and buy them, a bit like Joe Gelhardt at Leeds, but if you already have them in your ranks fantastic.
“Rangers have barely paid anything for McKenna. He is a young player who knows where the back of the net is so he is worth his weight in gold, he really is.
“Again, everything looks very healthy at Rangers right now.”
