Rangers legend Ally McCoist and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton were involved in a heated exchange with one another on Friday when debating the Hoops’ 7-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were thoroughly dismantled by the French giants at the Stade des Princes despite bagging an early lead through Moussa Dembele.
Ex-Parkhead forward Sutton believes that the issue is completely down to the personnel in the Celtic squad and that Rodgers should bring in better players to help strengthen his defence.
However McCoist argued that Rodgers was wrong to set up his side in the way that he did and that his formation was completely wrong, leading to the heavy defeat.
The two Old Firm icons were shown fiercely arguing with one another on the official Twitter account of BT Sport Football ahead of Rangers’ clash against Dundee on Friday when McCoist suggesting that Rodgers should shoulder the blame for the Paris humiliation.
“Play five in the middle of the park, play less attack-minded players in the middle,” said McCoist and when Sutton asked him who he should include, the ex-Gers manager responded fiercely.
“That’s not my problem, that’s Celtic problem. I don’t want to pick Celtic’s team for them. It’s the easiest thing in the world, just don’t play two wide men and one up front.
Sutton, clearly in disagreement pointed at the lack of defensive cover in the Hoops squad, mainly pointing the finger at goalkeeper Craig Gordon.
“It’s personnel. Celtic have struggled in the centre-half area. They conceded off two set-pieces and a sloppy goal the goalkeeper should have saved,” the former Blackburn striker said.
Tempers were clearly flaring the two BT Sport pundits, who were aptly holding blue and green microphones, with McCoist also blasting Sutton for his apparent lack of football knowledge.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” said Sutton.
McCoist responded: “Well that’s blatantly obvious. It says a lot about your knowledge of football.”
