Rangers January firesale on the cards: Senior trio may exit Ibrox after Murty revelation - report
Rangers could have a firesale on their hands in January with Bruno Alves, Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera all likely to exit Ibrox after only signing in the summer, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that veteran centre-back Alves has been attracting attention from the Middle East and may quit Rangers to boost his chances of making Portugal’s World Cup squad for Russia next year.
It is understood that summer flops Pena and Herrera may return to Mexico after enduring tough starts in Scottish football since Pedro Caixinha signed them.
The senior trio’s futures now appear to be in huge doubt after Caixinha, who signed them all, was sacked in October.
Caretaker manager Graeme Murty will remain at the helm into January and with the likelihood of transfer activity, he has recently revealed that director of football Mark Allen will take charge of any incomings or outgoings.
“Our recruitment department and Mark are looking at targets,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

“They are looking at players with the characteristics required to play for this football club.
“We’re in daily discussions but, as it comes closer to that time and to individual players, you’ll have to talk to Mark because he’s in charge of that side of it at the moment in our current set-up.”

Rangers’ appointment of Caixinha is still leaving many scratching their heads. His reign as manager was simply shambolic and it wasn’t just the results that were poor, he wasted so much money in the transfer market. What was he playing at by selling Barrie McKay for £500,000 then signing Pena for £2million? That has to go down as one of the worst pieces of business in Ibrox history, especially if the Mexican midfielder was to leave in January. Out of the senior trio, Alves is perhaps the only one worth keeping around. Even though he hasn’t set the world alight, he is still a very experienced player and him being at Ibrox must count for something. Pena and Herrera have been abysmal though and the Gers should cut their losses and sell them.
