Rangers are keen to tie star defender Connor Goldson to a new deal by the end of the year, Football Insider has learned.
The centre-back, 27, is due to enter the final 18 months of his contract in January, when he is expected to attract interest from south of the border.
Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club would like to secure Goldson to an extended deal ahead of the winter window to remove the possibility of his head being turned.
The Englishman has been arguably the outstanding player for Steven Gerrard’s side in their remarkable start to the campaign.
He has played every minute of the team’s 14 Scottish Premiership matches and six Europa League games, and scored both of the Rangers’ goals in their 2-0 triumph at Celtic.
Gerrard has made it clear publicly and privately he regards a player integral to a defence that has let in just three goals in their league fixtures.
As revealed by Football Insider club chiefs are keen to extend the centre-half a bumper contract to replace his current agreement, which expires in June 2022.
Goldson was a wanted man ahead of the summer window and attracted interest from English giants including Leeds United, Everton, West Ham and West Brom.
But Rangers were able to keep hold of the defender after placing a £6million price tag on him.
Goldson has reignited his career in Scotland following his £3million transfer from Brighton in the summer of 2018 that has proved outstanding value for money.
He has already made a remarkable 126 appearances for Rangers in less than two-and-a-half years at the club.
