Kieran Maguire: Rangers on verge of £20m+ 'game-changing' windfall amid sponsors reveal
Rangers will earn at least £20million if they reach the group stages of the Champions League – and more sponsorship money would follow.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Rangers’ 2-1 defeat to Malmo on 3rd August.
That leaves Steven Gerrard‘s side needing a win in the second leg of the third round knockout tie if they are to qualify for Europe’s top competition.
Rangers had success in the Europa League last season and that has coincided with an explosion in new commercial partnerships.
But it has been a decade since they reached the group stages of the Champions League.
Maguire explains that the Scottish champions would bank a guaranteed £20m and more lucrative partnerships by doing so.

“We’re probably looking at a minimum of £20m,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“You get 2.7m euros for a win and 900,000 euro for a draw. You also get a set fee and, because BT has paid so much for the rights, you get a sizable chunk of the broadcast pool as well.
“Historically, 78 per cent of the money has gone into the Champions League clubs and 22 per cent has gone to the Europa League clubs.
“That could be a game-changer if Rangers can get a result in the second leg.
“They won’t be a first seed, they’ll probably be a third or fourth seed. That actually increases the chances of them playing Man United or Real Madrid.
“Those will be top draws from a broadcaster’s point of view, and therefore an advertiser’s point of view, and therefore a sponsors’s point of view.“
