Rangers must stand by shamed 28-year-old after deal is reportedly ripped up
Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena has reportedly had his loan deal with Liga MX side Cruz Azul ripped up following claims he was caught urinating in a fountain at a hotel.
According to the Scottish Sun, Pena was “intoxicated in his own team’s Royal Pedregal Hotel and was caught by hotel management urinating in a fountain in the hotel grounds,” leading to them ripping up the year-long loan deal he started in December.
Additionally, ESPN Deportes are reporting that the Mexico City-based side have offered to send the player to rehab for treatment for alcoholism.
If the 28-year-old is suffering from alcohol-related problems and needs treatment then the Ibrox giants have no choice but to stand by the Mexican and help him get healthy first before trying to come to an agreement to bring his time at the club to an end.
While it looks like the Gers have flushed a substantial amount of money away signing Pena, they can’t just leave the former Chivas Guadalajara midfielder high and dry if he is indeed in need of help.

With two-years left on his Rangers contract, there’s no quick fix to it unless the Gers are happy to buy Pena’s deal out but if there is a problem with drinking then the Gers need look no further than a few of the club’s own legends to see just how devastating it can be.
Pena will never get mentioned often in the same breath as Jimmy Baxter or Paul Gascoigne – but if the reports from Mexico are true, hopefully, something can be done before he goes down the same path the two Ibrox legends did.
