Rangers have offered midfielder Greg Docherty as a makeweight for Hibernian striker Florian Kamberi, Football Insider can reveal.

The Light Blues are in talks with their SPL rivals over the Swiss forward as a potential loan signing after injury to Jermain Defoe left their forward options depleted.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that Hibernian are open to a deal for Kamberi, 24, but want a player in return.

Rangers have made clear to clubs that Docherty is available for loan and Sunderland were close to sealing a move.

There has also been a loan offer from Charlton Athletic but neither club were able to agree terms and he has yet to finalise a move.

That could change today as the free-scoring midfielder is prepared for a deadline-day exit.

He could head to the Edinburgh club as part of a deal for Kamberi, who is one of Steven Gerrard's top targets to fill the potential striker gap in his squad.

There is also a potential interest in Livingston's Lyndon Dykes if the Kamberi deal falls through.

Rangers

Kamberi is a centre-forward with eight goals in 27 appearances for Hibernian this season.

He was even more effective in his debut campaign last term, when his 43 matches yielded 13 goals and seven assists.
