Vitesse Arnhem defender Danilho Doekhi could be Rangers’ replacement for Filip Helander.

That’s according to former Rangers defender Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about a potential move for Doekhi.

This site revealed last week (April 25) that Newcastle United and Fulham have joined Rangers in the race to sign the centre-half.

This follows the news that, as revealed by Football InsiderRangers could sell Helander and George Edmundson this summer to help raise transfer funds.

Doekhi, 22, has barely missed a minute of football for Vitesse this season and recently captained the side.

Hutton claims Doekhi could be brought in as Helander’s replacement as he fits the bill for the type of player Rangers are looking to acquire.

“They obviously do their work on the scouting side,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“They look into the potential these players have. If they can, they’ll sell the likes of Helander and replace them with someone who fits the bill.

“Someone they can mould into their type of player, that’s how Rangers are working now.

“Bringing in youth players who are hungry to do well and then get them in the Premier League for a fee.

“This guy sounds talented and the scouts will have watched him for a long time, he obviously fits the bill.”

Doekhi has been a mainstay in Vitesse’s side this season with the club in the hunt for a European spot.

Rangers have already secured their place in the Champions League for next season after a 10-year absence.
