Rangers plan to sign the best young talents coming out of Scotland and help them to develop into star players at Ibrox.

This is according to former Man United scout and former Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Rangers are prioritising moves for homegrown talent.

Scouts are constantly assessing the top young talent in the country and keeping close tabs on their availability in case of a possible cheap deal.

The finances are Ibrox are a key reason behind their transfer strategy, as there is a feeling they will be limited in other markets when competing with rival clubs.

Instead, they will look to sign young local talent to develop into key players at Ibrox and either stamp their mark on the team or be sold for a profit in the future.

Rangers to prioritise signing Scottish talent in transfer twist

The summer signing of 22-year-old Connor Barron from Aberdeen was an example of their new strategy, landing a high-rated Scottish talent on a free transfer.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Rangers will have to be clever and considered to utilise their limited funds.

"They're prioritising the signings of homegrown players," he told Football Insider.

"If they can sign the best Scottish talents it will give them a solid foothold.

"That will be the base for them to build upon, having homegrown talents that can grow and develop at the club until they turn into top players.

"Then, they can establish themselves in the Rangers team or they'll move on and bring money in.

"With their financial situation, they'll struggle to fight off other teams to sign foreign talents.

"So focusing on players from within Scotland allows them to add to their quality without having to pay over the odds or fight off some of the English clubs for example."
