Rangers are expected to dip into the loan market during the January transfer window to sign multiple players to help close the gap between them and Celtic.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson revealed he expects Rangers to be “looking at loans at top quality players,” to bolster their squad.

The Scottish giants are already 11 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and currently sit third in the table after the opening 12 games.

Clement wants to strengthen the squad in January, but Rangers’ financial woes are going to restrict who he is able to try and sign.

Rangers released documents on 29 October to showcase their accounts for the 2023-24 season which revealed their net losses increased by £4.1million to £17.2million in total.

“They're going to have to be looking at loans at top quality players, who they can pick up,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Who are maybe not playing at their clubs south of the border, in Europe, wherever it be.

“The recruitment has got to be very, very clever, because it’s clear at the moment the team's not good enough, it's not strong enough.

“It's not getting the results that it should be getting or performing on the level it should be getting.”
