Pundit: Rangers target Harroui has 'great stats' as dossier compiled after Hungary transfer mission
Sparta Rotterdam star Abdou Harroui has “great stats” and fits in perfectly with the philosophy of signing young players at Rangers.
That is according to ex-England goalkeeper Paul Robinson speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed on 4 June that Rangers are interested in the Dutch goalscoring midfielder.
The club are weighing up a move for the 23-year-old and sent scouts to watch him at the Euro Under-21s Championships, including last week’s semi-final defeat to Germany in Hungary.
Harroui, who is entering the last year of his Sparta deal, scored six times and laid on three assists in 32 league appearances in 2020-21.
In 102 games for the club, he has netted 18 times and registered 13 assists, equating to a goal contribution rate of approximately one every three matches.
Robinson was impressed by his numbers and observed that his youth fits in with Rangers’ recruitment strategy under Steven Gerrard.

“On paper, he’s got great stats and his numbers,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“And at that age, he’s the right type of player for what they’re trying to build for the future.
“We’ve seen them sign youngsters, we’ve seen them put the building blocks and the foundations in place.
“It’s not just a short-term project and they’re making sure that Rangers stay where they are for a long time.
“Those types of players will go a long way to help the club sustain their success over a long period of time.”
Harroui was substituted at half-time as the Netherlands lost in the semi-finals of the Under-21 Euros to Germany.
