Sources: Leeds and Brighton race to sign Harroui

Leeds United and Brighton & Hove Albion have joined the race to sign Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Abdou Harroui, Football Insider can reveal.

Rangers have sent a senior scout to assess the 23-year-old in action for Holland at the European Under-21 Championships.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider Leeds and Brighton are also keeping close tabs on the goalscoring midfielder.

Harroui is out of contract at Sparta next year and that has opened the door to suitors.

Sparta will sell the central midfielder if their asking price is met.

The midfielder started for Holland as they lost 2-1 to Germany in the semi-final of the Under-21 Euros on Thursday (June 3).

He also played the full 90 minutes as they beat a France side filled with talent at the quarter-final stage.

A central-midfielder by trade, Harroui can also operate on the right-hand side and has an eye for goal.

He found the net six times and provided three assists in 32 Eredivise games as Sparta finished the season in eighth place.

A graduate of the club’s academy, Harroui now has 102 games under his belt that have yielded 18 goals and 13 assists.

At Leeds, he would provide competition and much-needed cover for Kalvin Phillips.

The England international is an integral part of Marcelo Bielsa’s side and they struggled when he was injured this season.

In the nine Premier League games he missed the Whites lost seven.

In other news, Leeds United have been offered an Arsenal rising star and £20million will seal the deal.
