Rangers eye shock late swoop for firm Celtic transfer target - report

Rangers have discussed the possibility of making a shock bid for long-time Celtic target Jack Hendry, according to a report.
The Daily Record’s live transfer blog (31/01 02:32) on their website has a claim from journalist Keith Jackson that the 22-year-old’s “name has cropped up in the Rangers boardroom.”
The report goes on to claim that if if came down to a financial battle between the clubs then Celtic would triumph, as they would be able to offer the player more money.
Hendry has been a long-time target for Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers, and the Scottish Premiership leaders have already had a bid for the player rejected, a bid described by Dundee manager Neil McCann as “very low“.
A move to Rangers would come as a huge shock to all involved considering the Hoops’ long-standing interest but it appears the Glasgow rivals could end up going head-to-head.
Football Insider verdict
It would be a huge shock if Rangers swooped in and signed Hendry from under the noses of their great rivals. Brendan Rodgers has been trying to sign the player for a month, and it would be a big blow to him and Celtic if he rejected them for their Glasgow rivals. It still seems likelier that Hendry will end up at Celtic, but it would be a huge coup for Rangers and once again show that they mean business in the Scottish Premiership going forward. The Light Blues’ transfer business so far has been very successful, if they were to pull this transfer off it would top the lot and be a huge boost for the club’s fans.
