Rangers tipped to sign Goldson 'replacement' this month as offer reported - pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested Rangers are ready to replace Connor Goldson this month with a move for Hearts’ John Souttar.
The former Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old would be a ready-made replacement for the Ibrox powerhouse.
As reported by the Scottish Sun on Thursday (6 January), Rangers are set to table a pre-contract offer to Souttar ahead of the summer.
The Scotland international is out of contract at the end of the season and has suitors across the country.
The Gers reportedly could table a transfer bid to Hearts to sign him this month if he does agree pre-contract terms.
Rangers’ hunt for a new centre-back comes as a result of Goldson running down his own contract at Ibrox.

Whelan suggested Souttar’s capture would fill the void left by the 29-year-old.
Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Connor Goldson doesn’t look like he’s going to sign a contract. There’s your replacement straight away.
“They’re not wasting any time in preparation for the start of next season. Connor Goldson obviously doesn’t want to sign another contract, he’s made that perfectly clear.
“They’ll probably see him to the end of the season. At the same time, they’re already targeting players that will come in and deputise for Connor Goldson when he does leave the club next summer.”
As revealed by Football Insider back in December, Nottingham Forest are one of the other club in pursuit of Souttar.
Stoke City, where Souttar’s brother Harry plays, are also in the running.
The Hearts star has played 151 times for his club and four times for Scotland to date.
