Rangers TV pundit tips Aston Villa to launch raid for Patterson and three other Ibrox stars

Alan Hutton has tipped Steven Gerrard to explore a move to sign Nathan Patterson from Rangers after being appointed Aston Villa boss.

The former Gers and Rangers TV pundit defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 20-year-old would be near the top of Gerrard’s shopping list were he to launch a raid for his old Ibrox stars.

Gerrard left Rangers to join the Villans last week after over three years in Glasgow.

A source with knowledge of Ryan Kent’s situation has told Football Insider Villa are among the clubs who have been keeping close tabs on the Ibrox star.

Meanwhile, the Daily Record (12th November) claim Glen Kamara is among Gerrard’s targets heading into the winter window.

However, Hutton suggested academy product and fan favourite Patterson could be the one to make the move down south.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “As soon as a manager goes to another club, he’s automatically linked with all the players from his previous club.

“He’ll know exactly what these guys are capable of. The likes of Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara, Nathan Patterson, he will know.

“He knows the standard down south but they’re competing against a higher calibre of player. Only he’ll know if they’re able to do that.

“Will he be interested in a few? Probably. The likes of Nathan Patterson, he’s very young, still progressing, he can get a lot better. He could develop a lot quicker down south.

“So yes, he’s probably got his eye on a couple. I think Patterson’s got the world at his feet if he sticks in and keeps progressing the way he is.

“There’s no telling how far he can go.”
