Rangers will step up their pursuit of Hearts and Aberdeen stars Jamie Walker and Kenny McLean after banking £1million from the sale of Martyn Waghorn to Ipswich, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun have claimed on their website that the Ibrox giants are hopeful of landing at least one of the Premiership duo before the transfer window’s close and will now use the seven-figure fee earned from Waghorn to try and seal a deal.
The Gers have already brought in nine new players this summer with Pedro Caixinha overhauling the squad which finished in third place in the last campaign.
However, it is said that the Portuguese March appointment wants to continue his spending and that McLean and Walker have been targets of his since the end of last season.
The Scottish Sun report details that Aberdeen chiefs are adamant that they won’t be selling McLean, while Hearts are insisting they want at least £1million for Walker after rejecting numerous bids.
Football Insider verdict:
The signatures of Walker and McLean could make Rangers a real force in Scotland once again and they must ensure that they seal both players. The Gers have brought in a number of players from across Europe and it was clear in both the Europa League ties and Premiership opener against Motherwell that some may not be good enough for the Ibrox giants, or need time to settle in Scotland. That would not be the case for either of Walker, or McLean and they have already shown their quality in Scotland, like Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack have and therefore the Gers must reinvest the Waghorn money back into the squad if they are to challenge fierce rivals Celtic.
