Rangers youngster Ashmore sends heartfelt message to Gilmour after PL switch is confirmed

By Danny Wright

Max Ashmore has taken to Twitter to send a heartfelt message to Billy Gilmour after it was announced on Tuesday he is leaving Rangers for Chelsea..

The Glaswegians said in a statement on their official website that Gilmour has made a switch to the Premier League club despite their intentions to keep hold of him.

According to Sky Sports, the London club agreed to pay £500,000 for the 15-year-old – a fee which Rangers find to be “significant”.

Ashmore, one of Gilmour’s youth teammates, is still a part of the Gers set-up and played in the 4-0 Challenge Cup win over Stirling Uni in October.

“All the best in your new chapter, brother,” said the 18-year-old on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday.

Many Rangers fans have blasted Gilmour for his move to Chelsea, who do not have the best reputation when it comes to developing youngsters.

According to the Blues’ official website, they currently have 37 players out on loan at different clubs across the UK and Europe and fans fear that the one-time Scotland Under-17 international could fall into obscurity.

Gilmour leaves Rangers without ever making a first-team appearance despite taking part in training with the senior squad.

Ashmore is also a midfielder and could make his senior debut in the not-too-distant future after Myles Beerman, David Bates and Jamie Barjonas were all recently picked to play in the first-team by Pedro Caixinha.

In other Rangers news, this 21-year-old, as well as Gilmour, is set to move to the Premier League within the next 24 hours.
