Every game Ben Godfrey could miss as scans revealed in new Rangers injury blow

Derek McInnes didn't have to wait long to contend with his first injury blow as Rangers kicked off their Scottish Premiership campaign.

Ben Godfrey lasted just 63 minutes at Tannadice Park on Friday, 31 July, which was compounded by the Gers only managing a 1-1 draw.

The former Everton man limped off after the hour mark, being replaced by Ross McCrorie, with goals already scored by Lachlan Rose and Thelo Aasgaard.

It was the visitors who pushed hardest to find a winner, but after 90 minutes, they were forced to share the points before returning to Ibrox.

McInnes had more bad news to follow, with the Daily Record reporting (3 August) that scans on Godfrey have already returned, revealing a hamstring injury.

The issue is set to keep the 28-year-old defender out for four weeks, in which time the Light Blues have a number of important games.

Rangers will be keen to make a statement in the Scottish Premiership after falling to a third-place finish in the table at the end of last season.

However, with Europa League qualification games to contend with as well, the squad's focus will be divided over the coming weeks.

It is also understood that the Gers are eyeing a new signing in the centre of defence despite Godfrey only being unavailable for a month, but it is easy to see why.

Emmanuel Fernandez is the first-choice at Ibrox, with Godfrey, Clinton Nsiala, John Souttar and new signing Olwethu Makhanya all battling it out for the position next to him.

Who else could Derek McInnes be without?

Godfrey is not the only player on the treatment table, though the Gers should be able to manage with the current squad as it is.

It is only a matter of time before 23-year-old Connor Barron returns from his knee injury, and Jose Cifuentes is unlikely to be part of the new manager's plans anyway.

The Ecuador international spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan with Toronto FC, where he made 17 appearances before returning to Scotland.

McInnes will need everyone possible available for their upcoming European clash, but someone will definitely have to fill in for Godfrey.
