Derek McInnes is approaching Rangers crunch 'differently to previous Ibrox managers' - Keith Wyness
Derek McInnes is "fully aware" of Rangers' past failings in European competitions and is working hard to avoid a repeat in the coming weeks.
That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Bears have been handed a "tricky" tie in the third round of Europa League qualifying.
McInnes' men have been drawn to face Jagiellonia Bialystok, who finished third in the Polish Ekstraklasa last term.
Wyness is adamant that the Polish outfit cannot be underestimated, but added that McInnes will have the team ready to "come out sharp" in their big European clashes.
Rangers are set to travel to Poland for the first leg on 6 August, before welcoming their opponents to Ibrox on 13 August.
McInnes' men have their eyes on a place in the league phase of the Europa League, but must first find a way to navigate through the final qualifying rounds.
Rangers must avoid repeat of Luxembourg 'disaster'
Aberdeen's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs - believes that McInnes cannot afford to take the team's European opponents lightly, as some of his predecessors have.
Rangers were infamously knocked out in the Europa League qualifiers by Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn back in 2017, and crashed out of Champions League qualifying with a heavy defeat to Club Brugge last term.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Wyness stressed that the new boss is sure to have his team ready and raring to go.
"This is a tricky fixture, no doubt about it. I mean, it probably wasn't the worst that Rangers could have had, but still, this is no easy game,
"They weren't far away from the Polish title; it's a difficult one for Rangers, and we've seen those banana skins before. I remember the game in Luxembourg just a few years ago that was a disaster. Rangers have got to be focused for this one.
"McInnes will have them up and running, I'm sure, because they know how important European revenue is right now, and they've got these extra rounds and some very tricky games to get through.
"McInnes will be fully aware of the importance of this. Other Rangers managers in the past may have just felt they could turn up and get through some of these fixtures; not anymore.
"Those clubs in Poland are very good and very active, and they've been playing for a little while now, so let's just see. This is not an easy one, and they've got to come out sharp."

Football Insider revealed last weekend that Rangers are beginning to explore new winger targets, amid an expectation that they will be priced out of a move for their former star Vaclav Cerny.
Besiktas are holding out to make a significant profit on the Czech star, who they paid £5million to sign from Wolfsburg last summer.
Their lofty demands will make it difficult for the Gers to make a genuine move for him this summer, and as a result, they have begun to cast their eyes elsewhere.
McInnes is keen to add further quality to his group in the wide areas, but he and the recruitment team are having to be patient at the moment.
