Rangers set sights on new forward after 'huge' Vaclav Cerny twist
Rangers may be forced to assess other wingers as they risk being priced out of signing Vaclav Cerny, sources have told Football Insider.
Derek McInnes is determined to strengthen his squad out wide, but Besiktas are sticking to their lofty demands over the 28-year-old who made the move to Turkey last year.
He enjoyed a strong loan spell at Rangers in the 2024-25 season, and the Ibrox club have been hopeful of a reunion, with a potential big-money move on the cards.
However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers are in danger of missing out on Cerny given the finances involved in the deal.
Having paid £5million for the winger last summer, and with two years remaining on his contract, Besiktas are hoping to make a significant profit if they are to sell.
As a result, Rangers will be forced to assess other options in the market who may be more reasonably prices as McInnes plots wide-scale changes to his starting XI.
Could Rangers make a move to sign Vaclav Cerny?
Football Insider revealed on 17 July that Rangers could struggle to reach an agreement with Besiktas in their pursuit of Vaclav Cerny given the finances involved in a deal.
They will now be forced to consider other targets, with the Ibrox recruitment team already assessing a number of available options in the summer transfer window.
Cerny had been a leading target for Rangers, but as they look further down their shortlist, they are expected instead to move for a player who represents better value for money.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It’s a difficult deal to do for Rangers for several reasons. Financially, obviously, it'll be very challenging.
"It would take a huge offer from Rangers to persuade Besiktas to cash in on him, so that's why I think it's a difficult deal to do for Rangers.
"He's on a big contract at Besiktas, and obviously Besiktas signed him for around 5 million euros last year. They'll be looking to recoup all of that if not more if they were to sell Cerny.
"The finances of the deal would make it a hard one for Rangers to try and push and get over the line.
"So Rangers and Derek McInnes as well be looking elsewhere to strengthen their attacking options in these final weeks of the window."
Which other wingers are on Rangers' radar?
Rangers are likely to be forced to assess other wide options this summer, with Besiktas pricing them out of a move for Cerny despite their growing interest in his signature.
The recruitment team have already been assessing a number of options, with scouts keeping tabs on players across Europe as well as in the Scottish Premiership.
Football Insider revealed on 15 July that Rangers are interested in signing Hearts winger Claudio Braga, as they aim to complete their raid on the Tynecastle club this summer.
The Ibrox club are eying another raid on Hearts, having already poched McInnes alongside Lawrence Shankland and Cammy Devlin from their rivals.
However, they are also at risk of being priced out of a move for the Hearts star, with a £9million asking price seen as too steep for the Scottish Premiership Player of the Season.
