Rangers will struggle to reach an agreement with Besiktas in their pursuit of re-signing Vaclav Cerny, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old has emerged as a target for Derek McInnes' side one year on from his impressive loan spell at Ibrox in the 2024-25 season, with a reunion now on the cards.

However, he completed a move to Besiktas for around £4.2million last summer, and the Turkish club are now set to demand an increase on that fee.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers will find it difficult to match Besiktas' asking price in their pursuit of Cerny.

The finances involved in the deal for the winger may take any move out of Rangers' reach, as the Turkish club are well-placed to dictate his future with two years left on his deal.

Cerny remains highly regarded at Ibrox, and they are keen to do a deal, but will only make it happen at the right price which now seems off the table given Besiktas' demands.

Will Rangers make a fresh move for Vaclav Cerny?

Former Aberdeen CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider in June that Rangers are plotting a move to sign Cerny, who is "the exact type of player" the Ibrox club need this summer.

However, the finances involved in any deal will make it tough for them to get a deal over the line, with Besiktas unlikely to budge in any negotiations.

Instead, Rangers may be forced to look elsewhere in their pursuit of a new winger, despite what has already proved to be a busy transfer window in Glasgow this summer.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It’s a difficult deal to do for Rangers for several reasons. Financially, obviously, it'll be very challenging.

"He's on a big contract at Besiktas, and obviously Besiktas signed him for around 5 million euros last year.

"They'll be looking to recoup all of that if not more if they were to sell Cerny just one year after his arrival in Turkey, because he still has two more years left on that deal.

"I don't think they'll be in any rush to lose the Czach Republic star. He had a great time at Ibrox when he was there on loan, scored lots of goals, but the finances of the deal will make this hard to do."

Which other targets are on Rangers' radar?

With Rangers likely to be priced out of a move to sign Cerny, they may be forced into other areas of the market where more affordable deals can be explored at Ibrox.

Rangers' scouts have been scouring Europe to find bargain deals for young players, who can then develop their game in Scotland to become key players under McInnes.

This comes after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rangers' recruitment team are scouting Scandinavia to find the "next Erling Haaland".

Having seen the performances of the Norway national team at the World Cup, scouting Scadinavia is being tipped as a smart move by Rangers.

Players including BA Hacken midfielder Silas Andersen and Tromso star Jens Hjerto-Dahl are already firmly on the radar at Ibrox, with their plans already bearing fruit.
