My friend is in charge of Rangers' transfers, this is what's going on behind the scenes
Rangers performance director Stig Inge Bjornebye is already having a huge effect on the recruitment at Ibrox after his permanent appointment this summer.
That is according to former Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham senior scout, Bryan King, who exclusively spoke to Football Insider.
The Gers confirmed that the former Liverpool defender and Norway international has been appointed this week, after he had initially joined the club on a temporary basis in December.
Bjornebye will work alongside technical director, Dan Purdy, and new manager Derek McInnes, who replaced Danny Rohl last week after the German left to join RB Salzburg.
Rangers have already sent signals of intent this summer, with new signings Lawrence Shankland and Ross McCrorie already pictured holding the shirt.
The season ended with huge disappointment under Rohl, with the ownership at Ibrox now under massive pressure to respond.
Bryan King provides Rangers insight
Bjornebye has worked at both Rosenborg and Aarhus as a sporting director, and will play a part in recruitment this summer.
In a statement, Rangers confirmed that the 56-year-old will oversee performance, medical and analysis departments, while also having "strategic responsibility" for the academy and overseeing all transfer activity.
"There's a pal of mine who's a director there at the moment, Stig Inge Bjornebye," King told Football Insider. "He's working together with the board on signings."
He continued: "Your sporting director, he's going to have his contacts. He's going to have the people that he's used in other places he's been.
"The first thing you've got to do is, if you're going to create a scouting network, is make sure all your areas are covered, be it Scandinavia, Northern Europe, Central Europe, Southern Europe.
"Other parts of the world you're looking at as well now, Australia, New Zealand, South America. The World Cup's a great place to look and find maybe new young players."
49ers face massive pressure amid run of poor decisions
After the 49ers completed the takeover of Rangers in May last year, one of its first major decisions was to appoint Russell Martin.
The former Southampton manager's tenure was woeful, and it ultimately resulted in the sackings of chief executive Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell in November.
Rohl looked to be positive arrival, but after his side collapsed at the end of the season, he was no longer a popular man at Ibrox.
McInnes appears to be an appointment that the fanbase have got behind, but he simply must be backed and succeed if the 49ers are to prove its ability to take Rangers forward.
