Jurgen Klopp talks revealed as Danny Rohl deals 'big blow' to Rangers: 'I've heard rumours...'
Jurgen Klopp was partially responsible for Danny Rohl's decision to leave Rangers and join Red Bull Salzburg.
That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the German's decision to depart could be down to an inability to "settle" in Glasgow.
This comes after the news that the Light Blues have agreed a deal for the 37-year-old to join Salzburg, who finished third in the Austrian Bundesliga last term.
Wyness has heard that former Liverpool chief Klopp, who is now Red Bull's Head of Global Football, held talks with his countryman to get a deal over the line.
Rohl is now on the verge of departing Ibrox, despite previously suggesting that he was committed to the club's rebuild project this summer.
Andrew Cavenagh and Co. are already working to appoint Hearts' Derek McInnes as his successor, but Wyness is adamant that the Gers' hierarchy have been caught off guard.
Keith Wyness: Rangers board had planned to stand by Danny Rohl
Aberdeen's former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now owns a consultancy business advising elite clubs - believes that the Rangers board had planned to keep their faith in Rohl.
The former Sheffield Wednesday boss had been under pressure after a dismal end to the league campaign, but Wyness is in no doubt that he was still seen as the right man for the job by those above him.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he emphasised that Rohl's exit is a "big blow" for Rangers, and also revealed Klopp's involvement in the move.
"I've been saying all along that I thought Rangers were right to stand by Rohl in the James Tavernier situation. I thought that he had the leadership and that he was showing signs of understanding how he was going to build going forward," Wyness said.
"To me, it's a big blow. I'd even heard rumours that Klopp had got involved in talking to him about going to Salzburg. It's a difficult one for Rangers because they were going to stick with Rohl and go forward, and he has decided that he's going to jump ship now.
"We've seen this before, where German managers tend to look at going back close to Germany when they get a chance, and I can understand it because Glasgow is not an easy place to settle, given the old firm rivalry, believe me. And so Rohl may have found that a challenge.
"This is one where Rangers needed stability, and they haven't got it. So whoever comes in, there's a question mark."
Rangers ready to break transfer policy for former hero
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday that Rangers are ready to break their transfer policy if the chance to re-sign Vaclav Cerny on a cut-price deal presents itself this summer.
At 28, the Besiktas winger doesn't fall in line with the Gers' new plan to target younger players with resale value, but they are prepared to make an exception.
Besiktas are looking to recoup all of the £6million that they paid to sign the Czech wideman last summer, but Rangers are hoping to do business for a smaller fee.
Cerny netted 18 goals during his loan spell at Ibrox back in 2024-25, a run of form that quickly saw him become a fans' favourite at Rangers.
