Sources: Rangers ready to break new transfer policy for cut-price Vaclav Cerny deal
Rangers will pay serious consideration to re-signing Besiktas winger Vaclav Cerny if the chance to get him on the cheap arises this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Besiktas are looking to recoup all of the £6million that they paid to sign him from Wolfsburg, and could even hold out to net a small profit.
A move for Cerny has been described as a "difficult" deal for Rangers to do due to that price tag, but they will continue to monitor his situation in the coming weeks.
The 28-year-old is seen as being too old to fall in line with the Light Blues' new transfer policy of targeting stars with resale value, but they are prepared to break that if there is a chance that a cut-price deal could be done.
The wideman is seen as someone who would be a popular addition to the squad, after his 2024-25 loan spell saw him become a fans' favourite.
Cerny notched 18 goals and nine assists during his one campaign at Ibrox, and the club are open to the idea of bringing him back permanently this summer.
Can Rangers afford a move for Vaclav Cerny?
Cerny starred for Rangers during his previous loan spell and was part of the squad that made it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
He struck six goals from 12 games in that competition, and added a further 12 strikes to his tally in the Scottish Premiership.
He continued to show that strong creative form at Besiktas in 2025-26, where he notched 15 goal involvements in 34 games.
However, the Turkish giants are open to the idea of selling him this summer, if the right offer comes in for them to recoup their cash.
Rangers are seemingly reluctant to pay a full £6m for the veteran due to his age, but are prepared to pounce if Besiktas lower their guard.
The 49ers are prepared to make significant money available to reinforce the squad this summer, but there is a huge emphasis on spending it on promising younger talents.
Light Blues backed to seal goalkeeper swoop
Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider last week that he expects Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson to make the move to Rangers this summer.
However, the former boardroom man emphasised that he expects the Light Blues to be unable to pay the current £8m asking price.
Wyness made it clear that he sees Patterson as being the "right man" to replace Jack Butland between the posts, but feels that a cut-price deal will be needed once again.
He suggested that Rangers may be able to get a transfer over the line at an initial £5m plus add-ons, but Patterson also has interest south of the border.
