Rangers 'likely' to complete new signing as Jack Butland departs after swap deal agreed

Rangers are prepared to let Jack Butland leave the club immediately as they finalise the signing of Ivor Pandur.

The 33-year-old has been a mainstay in the starting XI since his move to Ibrox in 2023, but was left out of the team in spells this season due to concerns over his displays.

There is now a feeling amongst the Rangers hierarchy that they can cope without the shot-stopper, who has been given permission to explore a move, with a replacement lined up.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rangers have been frustrated by Butland's displays and have opened the door to a move away.

Football Insider exclusively revealed the goalkeeper has now been given permission to travel to Hull, where he will hold talks over a move to the newly-promoted Premier League outfit.

Sources have now indicated that Butland is travelling to Hull on Monday for the final stages of his talks, and will undergo a medical before putting the finishing touches on the move.

Why will Jack Butland be allowed to leave Rangers?

Brown told Football Insider on 8 June that Premier League clubs have been looking at Butland, although Rangers were reluctant to sell without a replacement lined up.

They are now believed to be closing in on signing a new goalkeeper, and with Butland pushed out of the starting XI, they are ready to see him move on permanently.

A move to Hull seems to be imminent as things stand, with Rangers' concerns having grown to the point where they would not stand in his way to prevent a move.

"It's an interesting one with Jack Butland," Brown told Football Insider.

"Throughout his career, I know people who have rated him very highly and tipped him for big things, but he was always prone to errors which put doubts in people's minds.

"Eventually he made the move up to Scotland, and he had a great start at Rangers, but the same thing has happened where these mistakes have crept into his game.

"He's like marmite, Jack Butland, a lot of people like him and rate him very highly, and others have been left frustrated because he's capable of making very costly errors.

"It's now got to a point where Rangers are thinking the latter, they've been frustrated by his performances and they're now ready to let him go.

"I'm not convinced he's good enough for a Premier League club at this stage, he's not the type of player I would trust enough to back him as my number-one goalkeeper.

"But clubs have been keen on him, and Rangers have made them aware that he will be available, particularly, as seems likely, if they can go and bring in a new goalkeeper to replace him."

Who are Rangers signing to replace Butland?

Rangers' decision to let Butland move on has come as they are closing in on a deal to sign Hull City goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, in what is set to be a swap deal.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 29 June that Pandur has passed a medical at Rangers after terms were agreed between the two clubs.

The 26-year-old is currently away at the World Cup with Croatia, but has passed medical tests in the USA and has been given the all-clear to complete his move.

Pandur has built a growing reputation during his two seasons with Hull, and was one of the Championship's standout goalkeepers last term.

He is seen as an upgrade on Butland, who will be allowed to return to England following the final stages of talks and a medical with Hull City.
