Rangers 'pushing' to sign Amario Cozier-Duberry as talks advance

Rangers are pushing to complete the signing of Brighton star Amario Cozier-Duberry in the closing stages of the transfer window.

Derek McInnes' side saw a £7.5million offer for the 21-year-old rejected by Brighton earlier this month, but they have not walked away from their pursuit, with talks ongoing.

A number of rival clubs are also believed to have joined the race for the winger's signature, but Rangers are hopeful of securing a deal before the window closes.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Cozier-Duberry would be a significant upgrade on Rangers' current options and they are pushing to agree terms.

While much will depend on the transfer fee, with Brighton holding out for their lofty price tag, there is confidence at Ibrox that they can get a deal over the line.

Unlike clubs in England, for whom the deadline falls on 1 September, Rangers have until 3 Septmeber to get a deal over the line for Cozier-Duberry with talks ongoing.

Will Rangers make another move for Amario Cozier-Duberry?

Football Insider revealed on 21 August that Rangers are moving closer to an agreement with Brighton over Cozier-Duberry despite having seen two offers rejected.

McInnes has prioritised the addition of wide players in the window's closing stages, despite having completed the signings of Min-su Kim and Daisuke Yokota in recent weeks.

Cozier-Duberry has emerged as Rangers' top target in the closing stages of the window, and despite so far having been unsuccessful in their pursuit, they remain hopeful.

"I watched him play a few times for Bolton last season and I was always very impressed by what I saw, he looks like he would be a good addition to this Rangers squad.

"So it's no surprise they are pushing to agree a deal, especially if he is going to be allowed to leave Brighton, it makes a lot of sense for Rangers.

"It's an area of the squad where they want to improve, and their slow start to the season certainly suggests they need additions, so it's a deal they're trying to get done.

"Plus, they've had success in the past recruiting from the English leagues, and it's been an avenue they have been keen to explore again.

"A lot will depend on whether they can pay what Brighton want, but by all accounts they're still in talks, so they must feel that there is a deal to be done."

Which other clubs are interested in Cozier-Duberry?

Despite their ongoing interest in signing Cozier-Duberry, Rangers are not the only club in the race to agree a deal in the coming days before the transfer window closes.

A number of English Championship clubs are also believed to be keen, potentially complicating Rangers' pursuit as they are unlikely to be able to compete financially.

Football Insider revealed on 23 August that West Ham and Wolves are both well-placed to sign Cozier-Duberry and have the finances to match Brighton's asking price.

The Seagulls are demanding a fee of around £10million for the winger, which is seen as an achievable fee for the Championship duo.

Rangers remain keen to get a deal over the line, but their pursuit is becoming increasingly complicated, with rivals now in position to swoop.
