Rangers' windfall 'incomparable' to Celtic - Stefan Borson
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Gers face very little upside of qualifying for the Europa Conference League.
Derek McInnes' side, however, took an important step towards doing so, beating Jablonec in a play-off final first leg on Thursday, 20 August.
Ryan Don Naderi scored the only goal in a rather unconvincing win at Ibrox, putting one step in the competition for the 2026-27 campaign.
The Hoops, on the other hand, are on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League, having beaten LASK 3-0 in their first leg on Wednesday, 19 August.
While Martin O'Neill's side must still travel to Austria for the second leg, qualification looks likely, with the potential for a £40million windfall.
Europa Conference League could hinder Rangers' season
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson explained just how drastically different the two club's seasons could be financially this term.
"It doesn't make a huge impact really because the costs are so high. They'll clearly wash their face if they get to the very last stages," he said.
"So yes, get to the semis or the final, you'll do okay out of them. But the Europa Conference League, in particular, is a very difficult one.
"If you don't get very far in it, you have all of the cost, the actual physical cost of taking your squad all around Europe, which is expensive, and you don't get huge revenues.
"And of course, it massively impacts your ability to succeed in the domestic league because it's just adding so many miles onto the players. You need a bigger squad.
"It's just incomparable, Celtic in the Champions League versus Rangers in the Europa Conference League. Just incomparable."
Who could be missing for Jablonec second leg?
McInnes will certainly not have his full squad to choose from when the two sides meet again, and victory is by no means in the bag just yet.
Youssef Chermiti is sidelined for most of the season with an ACL injury, while Ben Gofrey is expected to return next month after playing just one game.
And after just five minutes on the pitch as a substitute in the first leg, Cammy Devlin will be unavailable, having been sent off for an awful challenge.
McInnes could even welcome a couple of new faces before the game, Football Insider understands that the Gers are closing in on Amario Cozier-Duberry.
