Rangers are pushing to reach an agreement with Tromso in their efforts to sign Jens Hjerto-Dahl, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old has emerged as a top target for Derek McInnes' side, who have already had a significant offer rejected by the Norwegian club.

However, the Ibrox club are showing no signs of backing down in their pursuit and remain hopeful that a deal can be agreed as they prepare to submit an improved offer.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Hjerto-Dahl has been a long-term target for Rangers and they are now prepared to accelerate his signing.

Despite having missed out when they pursued a deal last summer, there is a growing feeling that Rangers could reach an agreement amid negotiations with Tromso.

Despite having seen their opening offer rejected, Rangers are likely to return with a fresh bid, with McInnes keen to be proactive in the transfer market.

Could Rangers agree terms for Jens Hjerto-Dahl?

Football Insider recently shared reports of Rangers' interest in Hjert-Dahl, with fans calling for the club to get a deal over the line, even if they have to sell key players.

The midfielder could be seen as a long-term replacement for the exit-linked Nicolas Raskin, who is currently away at the World Cup with Belgium.

Regardless of any departures, though, Rangers are hopeful of getting a deal over the line and are expected to continue negotiations with Tromso for Hjerto-Dahl.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Yeah, he's a player that they do like, Hjerto-Dahl. As you mentioned, he's been a long-term target for them.

"They looked at him last season as a potential signing but weren't able to get a deal done. Obviously they have been continuing to keep tabs on him.

"There are reports in Norway claiming that a bid has been rejected by Tromso for Hjerto-Dahl from Rangers.

"That interest will firm up, and I would imagine that if there's any indication that Tromso are willing to sell, Rangers will be right there trying to get a deal done for the midfielder as well.

"Obviously we know they are keen to get a deal done if they have made a bid, and I'm sure negotiations are ongoing between Tromso and Rangers to see if a deal can be thrashed out."

Exclusive: Leeds and Brighton in race to sign Jens Hjerto-Dahl

Which other clubs are interested in signing Hjerto-Dahl?

Despite their interest being the most advanced, with club-to-club talks underway and a formal offer having been rejected, Rangers are not alone in their pursuit of Hjerto-Dahl.

Clubs from across Europe, including in the Premier League, are believed to have been keeping tabs on the midfielder's development for over a year now.

Last summer, Football Insider exclusively revealed that both Leeds United and Brighton had entered the race to sign Hjerto-Dahl after scouts identified him as a target.

His performances for Tromso and Norway's Under-21s side have placed him on the radar of a number of top clubs, with high hopes for his future development.

The level of interest in his signature is a display of his talent and potential, and Rangers must now beat off their rivals if they want to get a deal over the line.
