Rangers are prioritising the addition of at least one new right-back this summer as the recruitment team aims to bolster the squad in key areas.

After James Tavernier announced his decision to walk away at the end of the season, and Max Aarons returned to Bournemouth, Rangers have been left short in the right side of their defence.

Dujon Sterling is now the only senior right-back on the books at Ibrox, and concerns about his fitness and recurring injuries have pushed the club into the transfer market.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the recruitment team are prioritising replacements for Tavernier and Aarons this summer.

Rangers limped to a frustrating third-place finish last time out, leading club chiefs to assess the squad, with a number of key positions alerady in need of strengthening.

However, they have first set their sights on a right-sided defender given the alarming lack of depth in the position after two major exits.

What are Danny Rohl's summer transfer plans?

Football Insider revealed last month that Rangers have been keen to back Danny Rohl with the addition of "lots of players" to bolster in key areas, including at right-back.

Those plans could be impacted by a potential change in manager, with reports suggesting Rohl is set to join RB Salzburg after being offered the manager's job.

Regardless of the boss' future at Ibrox, however, Rangers are aware they need to strengthen on the right-hand side of their back line sooner rather than later.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "As you mentioned, right-back is going to be a key position for Rangers to strengthen in this summer.

"They've seen James Tavernier leave at the end of the season, and Max Aarons is now set to return to Bournemouth.

"So they are short of right-back options at Rangers, and it's a position they want to address as a priority this summer."

Which right-backs are on Rangers' list of targets?

Following the departures of Tavernier and Aarons, a number of potential replacements have emerged on Rangers' radar, with work being done behind the scenes.

The likes of Luca Stephenson, Nathan Patterson and Ryan Alebiosu have all been linked with moves to Ibrox, but one right-back has emerged as their top target.

Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Rangers are pusuing a deal to sign Westerlo full-back Bryan Reynolds, who has been on their radar for a number of months.

The 24-year-old is seen as a direct replacment for their outgoing defenders, while his performances in Belgium have placed him firmly on their list.

Sources say Westerlo could agree a cut-price fee for Reynolds this summer, as he has just one year remaining on his contract and they are reluctant to see him leave for free.
