Cammy Devlin to sign for Rangers after Hearts announcement – verdict
Cammy Devlin’s move to Rangers this summer is now inevitable after Hearts announced his departure on Friday.
The 28-year-old midfielder has officially left Tynecastle after his contract expired at the club this summer.
The Australia international was vital to the Jambos’ title charge last season before the club missed out on the trophy on the final day.
Devlin has been linked with Rangers this summer after Derek McInnes made the move over to Ibrox last month.
Now, this move will surely happen as the manager looks to bring in his star man from the 2025-26 campaign.
The midfielder was named Hearts Fans’ Player of the Season in May and was easily one of the standout players in the Scottish Premiership.
Cammy Devlin to Rangers is an inevitability
Rangers have been heavily linked to several midfielders this summer as they look to put their poor 2025-26 campaign behind them.
The need for a new central-midfielder has only heightened amid rumours that Nicolas Raskin and Connor Barron could leave the club.
Therefore, given that Devlin is available on a free transfer, and McInnes is a big fan of the star, a move will almost certainly happen.
The Australia international would be an excellent option for the Gers, and would 100 per cent improve the quality in their squad.
However, it remains to be seen if the club does actually make a move for the 28-year-old over the coming weeks.
How good was Devlin last season?
According to Fotmob on 10 July, Devlin was simply fantastic for Hearts in the Scottish Premiership last campaign.
Per 90 minutes, he was averaging 0.08 goals, 0.75 chances created, 8.51 duels won, 2.86 fouls won, 4.25 tackles, 2.26 interceptions, 7.04 recoveries and 1.77 clearances per 90 minutes.
Therefore, if he can continue this type of form at Ibrox, he could be a massive asset, and could help the club finally pick up consistent clean sheets once more.
However, if Rangers do want to pick up Devlin on a free transfer, they will have to move fast, as multiple clubs are also likely to be pursuing his signature.
Nevertheless, Rangers would likely be the most attractive destination given he would be reunited with McInnes and Lawrence Shankland.
