Djeidi Gassama could be set to leave Rangers in the summer transfer window after their disastrous end to the Scottish Premiership season.

The 22-year-old opted to remain at Ibrox rather than pursue a move to Monaco during the January transfer window after Rangers turned down an offer.

However, should the French club come in with a new offer, it will be difficult to turn down and the winger could push to take a step up away from Scotland.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown warned Football Insider that Rangers could be "forced" to sell players as convincing them to remain at Ibrox may prove difficult.

Danny Rohl is understood to be reluctant to lose his key players, but interest in Gassama could force Rangers to alter their ambitious transfer plans.

Why could Rangers be forced to sell Djeidi Gassama?

Football Insider revealed earlier this year that Rangers would consider offers for Gassama in the summer if they missed out on Champions League football.

Having blocked any offers for him during the January transfer window, they had hoped to keep hold of the winger, but that situation is expected to change.

After a third-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership, Gassama could seek a move away from Ibrox, while Rangers may have no choice but to let him go.

"Rangers might find it difficult to keep hold of him," Brown told Football Insider.

"Clubs are always keeping an eye on Scottish football, and if a player like Gassama has impressed enough to make a move to Europe, then now might be the time.

"It was a nightmare season for Rangers, they're not going to be in the Champions League next season or anything like that, so it's difficult to keep these players.

"If a club comes along like Monaco for example, he might want to make that move happen.

"Then Rangers could be forced to let him go because if the player wants the move and the money is right, even if the manager wants to keep him, it's not easy to stop it."

Could Premier League clubs move to sign Gassama?

Monaco are not the only club interested in signing Gassama, with clubs across Europe having been keeping an eye on his performances at Ibrox.

With the news that he could become available after Rangers' miserable end to the season, clubs could now be encouraged to make moves for the winger.

Brown told Football Insider in February that Premier League clubs are watching Gassama with scouts keeping tabs on his development since his move to Ibrox.

His performances in the Scottish Premiership, particularly since Rohl's appointment, have inspired interest from a number of clubs south of the border.

The finances involved in any move to the Premier League would likely prove tempting for the club and the player, and they could be well-placed to get a deal done.
