Mikey Moore has 'personal links' at Rangers and new deal is possible 'from what I heard'
Mikey Moore moving back to Rangers on loan again for the 2026-27 season should not be ruled out just yet.
That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Tottenham Hotspur starlet may value the familiarity of a return to Ibrox next season.
This comes amid links over a move to the Bundesliga on loan, with Football Insider revealing last week that both Borussia Dortmund and Koln are keen on the young winger.
Wyness believes that Moore’s “personal links” at Rangers mean that a return is still not off the table, despite acknowledging that a move to Germany may provide a bigger benefit this time around.
A stint in the Bundesliga would provide a step up in terms of quality, and Wyness has stressed that the youngster must avoid allowing himself to be bracketed as a player who can only perform in the Scottish Premiership.
The 18-year-old notched seven goals and four assists in all competitions for Rangers last season, and had become a firm favourite among the Ibrox faithful by the end of his loan spell.
Keith Wyness: ‘If I was Mikey Moore’s advisor…’
Aberdeen’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs – believes that Moore’s advisors should be trying to steer him towards a move to the Bundesliga for his next loan.
He outlined that the player’s camp will be “looking very closely” at what Germany has to offer for his career, but added that it would likely be a “great” move for him.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness shared a feeling that Moore wants to take the “easier option” and return to Rangers.
“It's a tricky one. Look, he's got the links at Rangers. I heard he was on holiday with Bailey Rice the other day, another Rangers prospect, so there's obviously still personal links happening up there,” he said.
“If I was his advisor, though, I would have said potentially Germany could be a very interesting market for you to get the experience. I think that if he's not careful, Mikey Moore is going to be stereotyped as an SPL player.
“Despite the fact he's doing well and it's been a great experience for him, think a spell in Germany would be great for him, provided he's going to get minutes and the pathway is there in Germany as well.
“I would imagine he would like to take that easier option of going back to Rangers because he knows the place, he's comfortable, and he's starting to really show some strength and some ability, and obviously he's starting to grow into it.
“But let's not dismiss, if I were his advisor I'd be looking very closely at what Germany can offer, and he'll be looking at being a Spurs player.”
Tottenham at risk of unsettling Moore
Wyness previously told Football Insider at the end of June that Tottenham risk unsettling Moore long-term by their decision to line up another loan move for next season.
He believes that the starlet has done enough to have earned a chance as part of the first-team setup in North London, rather than being farmed out again to gain further experience.
Wyness emphasised that the likely exits for Luka Vuskovic and Lucas Bergvall show that the pathway for young players to progress is currently blocked at Tottenham.
He expects the discontent of those two starlets to potentially set an example for Moore, and make him keen to get away from Spurs for good if he doesn’t get his chance in the coming years.
