O'Rourke shares update on Youssef Chermiti's Rangers future

Youssef Chermiti's future at Rangers will hinge on the severity of his latest injury issue, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Fenerbahce of late, and the Turkish giants recently saw a £22million offer knocked back by Rangers. 

The Glasgow giants are adamant that the Portuguese is a key part of their plans for this season, but now his fate is likely to “depend” on the length of his injury lay-off. 

Sources have indicated that if Chermiti is facing a lengthy lay-off, then it will end any chance of him leaving Ibrox in the coming weeks.

The frontman is set for a scan on Monday, after he was stretchered off after just 36 minutes during Sunday’s defeat to Hibernian. 

However, if the issue is less serious than originally feared, then Rangers are expected to face a battle to keep their star man before the 1 September deadline.

Youssef Chermiti’s fate hangs in the balance

Chermiti was one of the stars of Rangers’ season last term, despite him facing criticism from some quarters at times. 

The former Everton man ended the Scottish Premiership campaign as the Gers’ top scorer with 15 strikes to his name.

Many of those efforts came in his team’s most crucial games, with eight of those goals against Celtic and Hearts alone. 

His performances have drawn strong attention from Fenerbahce and a series of other clubs, but Derek McInnes maintained after the defeat to Hibs that Chermiti’s valuation still hasn’t been met.

It remains to be seen whether the Turkish giants were planning to launch an improved offer for the youngster, and that prospect now hangs firmly in the balance. 

If the results of the impending scan realise Rangers’ worst fears, then Chermiti will be protected from other clubs, but will also be out of action for a prolonged period.

Oguz Aydin latest as Rangers eye swoop

Football Insider revealed last weekend that Rangers are unlikely to be able to snatch Fenerbahce winger Oguz Aydin this summer.

Sources say that Ismail Kartal’s side are not keen to lose any players this summer, and still have plans for Aydin. 

The 25-year-old is a Turkey international and still has two years remaining on his contract, with Fenerbahce’s valuation expected to be beyond Rangers’ reach.

The Ibrox outfit are still desperate to add more wide options to their squad in the coming weeks, but will have to look elsewhere.
