Rangers fans are less than impressed that the club is exploring a deal for Coventry City player Jahnoah Markelo.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that the Gers have opened talks with the newly promoted Premier League club over a potential loan deal for the winger.

Rangers are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old, having previously been interested in a move before his move to Coventry last season.

However, the Ibrox faithful are not impressed by this development, as they fear that Markelo is not good enough for their squad.

The club has had rotten luck signing players who have had recent success in the Championship, with Joe Rothwell being a recent example.

Markelo made five appearances for Coventry last season after signing in the winter window, and did not pick up a goal contribution.

Rangers fans do not want Jahnoah Markelo to sign

Now that Celtic are starting to wake up this transfer window, Rangers must ensure that their signings are excellent if they are to win the title.

So far, many fans are likely happy with the club’s business, with many top players coming into the club.

However, after Sky Sports reported that Markelo could soon be on his way to Ibrox, supporters were not pleased.

Many took to X, demanding that the club not go through with the signing, believing that it would be “pointless”.

How good is Markelo?

Before his move to Coventry City, Markelo was a very solid player in the Swiss Super League.

Playing for FC Zurich, the winger had many solid stats, that no doubt helped him win a move to the West Midlands club.

According to Fotmob on 28 July, he was averaging 0.19 goals, a 0.29 xG, 2.94 shots, 0.28 assists, a 0.23 xA, 2.27 chances created and 2.18 successful dribbles per 90 minutes.

Therefore, if this can be replicated in the Scottish Premiership, he could be a very solid player for Rangers.

However, given his lack of game time at Coventry, it remains to be seen if Derek McInnes can recover this form.

Nevertheless, Rangers still clearly have work to do if they are to bring Markelo to Ibrox this summer transfer window.
